Ilmor claims its third successive P1 championship!
Sep 01, 2009The #43 Seagull Chaudron Team, powered by twin Ilmor MV-10, 570 HP engines, fought hard all season and took the SuperSport class championship with 977 points (including Engine Reliability points), just 20 points ahead of the second place competitor. The victorious team included driver Aaron Ciantar (MLT), throttleman Angelo Tedeschi (ITA), and navigator Viktor Shemchuk (UKR).
The Seagull Chaudron Team drove a risk-free final race, taking a second-place finish to ensure the title. Tedeschi and Ciantar also won SuperSport gold in 2008, but noted that this year the competition in the 71.76 nautical mile race was much greater, upping the challenge and making the victory even sweeter.
Ilmor president Paul Ray is proud to boast this SuperSport victory along with the company's 2007 and 2008 Evolution Class championships. "It proves what precision engineering can do – whether you're a high-performance racer or just enjoy the thrill of the ride, our engines offer unmatched performance and reliability."
The Powerboat P1 World Championship rewards not only outright performance but also reliability through its championship points system, Ray explained: "Reliability points are awarded for the continued use of the same two engines. Fifty reliability points for the first half of the season and fifty more for the second half. Ilmor and the Seagull Chaudron Team claimed all 100 points available."
"In the past 25 years, Ilmor has won championships in some of the highest-level racing series in the world, including Formula One and IndyCar®," explained Ray. "We believe the toughest test and the greatest reward is winning against the best competition. P1 Powerboat is the finest powerboat racing series in the world, and their management and staff do a superb job. They are great at promoting the events and making all of the fans and competitors feel welcome. It's a first-class organization. We are proud to be champions of the Powerboat P1 World Championship series."
